and shortly after when I returned home one day I found that he
had left me a letter in which he said that he was returning to
England by himself. I found that the ship had already sailed. I do not know how he obtained the money for his passage to
England. He wrote several times to me from the boat and since
his arrival in England he has written many affectionate letters, in all of which he says that he is trying to save up enough
money for my passage to England. All the letters have been written c/o Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London, and I have
always used that address to write to him. The last letter that
he wrote to me was dated 29th March, 1937, and as in a previous letter he had mentioned the possibility of his committing
suicide, as he was despondent through being out of work, I
would like the police to ascertain if he is still alive, and if
he is working, to inform him that he must contribute to my
maintenance.
Since I arrived here in 1937 as a refugee from Shanghai I have kept myself by means of a small restaurant which I
opened in Wanchai. I was forced to sell that establishment
some time ago and since then I have been living on the money that I got for it. I have been trying to get work and I have
been offered a job in Canton, but as I have been refused a
passport I am not able to go there. If I am still refused a
passport, and my husband should refuse to support me, then it is certain that I will become destitute here in the near future, because I have only sufficient money left to keep me for about
one month.
As it is through my husband's father, who disliked me, that my husband left me, I give below the particulars of both of them in order that my husband may be traced quickly. Father:- Alfred Lock, Manager of a bakery, No.1 Beauchamp
Road, Peverell, Plymouth.
Husband:- Reginald Redvers Lock, born 10th December, 1900,
